Position Description: Occupational Therapist
Location
Far North Queensland, based in Cairns
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with the Occupational Therapist’s Registration Board of Queensland.
- Membership of OT Australia with Accredited OT status.
- Associate or Full membership of the Australian Hand Therapy Association
- Current unrestricted Drivers Licence.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
Accountability
Responsible to Kerry Stingel, Director and Andrew Stingel, Practice Manager
Basic Functions
- To plan, coordinate and implement specific assessment and treatment programs to facilitate the rehabilitation of clients referred for Occupational Therapy services.
- To assist with the administrative requirements of the practice.
- To assist with the supervision of Occupational Therapy undergraduate students.
Duties
- assess and treat assigned patients / clients utilising Occupational Therapy media
- consult with other health professionals / insurers / employers involved in the clients case to coordinate care and funding
- maintain close liaison with other private health providers, public health care services, community agencies and related groups
- maintain patient files and ensure timely preparation of reports, forms and letters
- participate in inservice programs and education sessions for the benefit of yourself and others
- contribute to practice planning and public relations / networking opportunities
- assist with the supervision of students
- schedule appointments and maintain appointment book
- greet patients in a positive manner and discretely handle personal or phone enquiries
- handle enquiries from patients and referring agencies relating to the nature of the services provided by Cairns Occupational Therapy
- assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial files, including patient billing
- ensure office environment is as safe as possible for patients and staff
- other such duties as directed

Occupational Therapy Students
As part of our commitment to the Occupational Therapy profession we voluntarily supervise Occupational Therapy students in their undergraduate clinical placements. Fieldwork placements may be for 7-14 weeks. Students appreciate being able to observe and assist with treatment of clients. At the client's discretion, the student may attend and participate in consultations, but will at all times be accompanied by a supervising qualified and experienced therapist.
